I have the latest version of OpenDCL, but heard tab control is not working...

So I am wondering what would happen if I install the 5.xx version marked stable?

Also, is it possible to drag and drop buttons from an existing control to a new control (i.e. a newly inserted tab control) and not loose
the button variable info?  Or will I have to reset the click methods / variable names with new buttons?

It only takes a few seconds to uninstall 6 and install 5, so try it and see if you notice any problems. I don't think you can drag and drop controls from one form to another, but you can copy and paste them using the clipboard.
